Canoeing.

I will be talking about how canoeing is interesting to me. It is a fun thing that I like to do.
A canoe is a small narrow boat that which you usually use paddles and paddle yourself but sometimes they do have motors also. The paddlers face the direction in which you are traveling or where you would like to go. The paddlers are either seated on supports in the hull or they can also be kneeling directly upon the hull.
A canoe has seven different parts to it. It has parts called the bow, stern, and hull. It also has a things called the seat, thwart, gunwale, and a deck. The thwart is a horizontal crossbeam that is near the top of the hull used to increase hull strength. The gunwale is a reinforcing strip running along the top edge of the hull to which the thwart is attached. The deck is a foam block which will prevent the canoe from sinking.
There is also different designs that a canoe has. These are some of the things, dugout, birch-bark-canoe, wood and canvas canoe, voyageur canoe, and there was also one that was called the war canoe. There are some more but it is too many to say.
There are also different ways you can paddle your canoe. I am just going to tell you some of them not all of them. There is the forward stroke, J-stoke, back stroke, cruising stroke, and C-stroke. You can look this up if you would like to know more ways that you can paddle.
That is all that I will be telling you about canoes.  If you want to know more look up on the internet or something. Hopefully it was interesting to you.

Paper on the Andes Mountains.

Climbing in the Andes Mountains
Allison Roschild
9/29/10

In this report I will be talking about climbing in the Andes Mountains. The best place to be if you want to rock-climb and/or mountain climb is in the Andes Mountains.
It is known to be one of the most longest mountain range. The Andes are home to over fifty mountains higher than 20,000 feet and go across seven countries in South America. It is said that it runs 4,500 miles from north to south along the west coast of South America. It begins in Chile (the southern tip) and passes through Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, and Venezuela. The Andes have some of the largest and highest peeks in the world (height averaging about 13,000 feet above sea level and its highest 22,841 feet.)
The Andes are home to over fifty mountains higher than 20,000 feet and go across seven countries in South America. Along their length the Andes are split into several ranges which get separated by depressions. The Andes are the location of a lot of high plateaus some, which are the locations of major cities such as Santiago de Chile, Sucre, and La Paz. The Altiplano Plateau is most likely the second highest plateau along with the Tibetan Plateau. The Andes extend to seven countries, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela.
Now I will be explaining about what the climate is like in that area, the animals, and what kind of trees are over that way and what not. First I will be talking about the climate. The climate is not the same through out the region because there are places that are more closer to the equator than some. The Andes are separated into three regions the southern, central, and northern. In the northern region, it is hot because it is the closest to the equator. There are also rain forests in this part, which the reason for that is because it's more humid and also a rainy climate. In the southern region the mountains are closer to the Antarctic and it is way much colder. In the central region the weather is more mild because it is not near the equator or the cold Antarctic. The largest herb in the world Puya raimondii, grows in this region and it can also survive at high elevations up to 13,000 feet. The herb can also live for 100 years. The herb's leaves grow from one big stem. Than it allows moisture to run down the leaves to the base of the plant. So during the hot and humidity times the plant can survive. Many of the plants that grow in the Andes Mountains are small in size so they can conserve energy. Their leaves can be strong to protect them from frost and cold weather if they are too high in the mountains.
This is what I have wrote about and now I am done talking about this. I hope you look into some of the things more and get more interested into it. I also hope you like this report that I wrote.

Climbing Holds, and the use of them.

There are a lot of climbing holds. There is eleven different ones that I am going to tell you about but there is many more. There is one called the Crimper and it is a way to grip a small hold with the thumb over the top of the fingertips which are pressing on the hold. They say the crimper is a big enough hole for only three or four fingers. There is also one called the edge and that is said to be just a little bit bigger than the crimper. Jib is another one and it is used for great foot holding. Jug is one that is a large hold that is easily gripped by the entire hand. Knob prutrudes like a door knob. Pincher is a thin hold that that is designed to "pinch". The pocket hold has a hole usually big enough for one or two fingers. Roof Jug is for holding upside down, Sidepull is similar to an under cling except to its side. Sloper's are size ranges from a few inches to a foot in length. An Undercling is a type of hold held from the bottom with the upward pull.

This video is about penguins

and how they act and how they live. It is very interesting to watch. There is also a lot of things that are interesting that they do. They are so adorable and honestly if I could I would get a penguin as a pet. If I really wanted to I could get one but I just don't know if that would be a good thing.
But I think they are very interesting to watch and they have a lot of energy. They could pretty much do anything. They are so adorable. Penguins are about 1.1 m tall and weigh about 35 kg. The smallest penguin species are the Little Blue Penguins.

Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center in Spicer

Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center is located in Spicer, MN. It is a place where you can go to have fun and do other things. You could go canoeing, archery, go to the shooting range, circuit course, and learn how to cook things there. It looks like a fun place to be and fun things to do. It has got a prairie land there too. It looks kinda interesting but not really. I don't seem too interested in it.

Summary of Jon Krakauer

Jon Krakauer was an American writer and a mountaineer, which was mainly about the outdoor and mountain- climbing. He has also wrote about other subjects too but I don't know what. The word is is that he is the the best selling non-fiction writer. He had wrote many things- Into The Wild, Into Thin Air, Under the Banner of Heaven, and Where Men Win Glory. He also has tons of magazine articles. Also after one year after he got done graduating from college he spent 3 weeks by himself in the wilderness in Stikine Icecap which is located in Alaska. There was also a new route where he was and he had climbed that also, it had been called the Devils Thumb.

Denali is a Mountain in South central Alaska, which is also the highest peak in North America.

Christopher McCandless was an American who adopted the name Alexander supertramp. He had hiked into the Alaskan wilderness with little food and equipment hoping he would stay living. Almost 4 months later, only weighing 67 pounds, he had died near Denali National Park and preserve because of starvation. An author name Jon Krakauer, had wrote a book about his adventures published in 1996 titled Into The Wild.

The story of Christopher McCandless, Into The Wild from adam on Vimeo.

The video was about a guy named Christopher McCandless and his life and what was all going on in his life. He had a very sad life and I don't think anyone should be that way. I would have wished the best for him if he was still here.

Summary on Steve Paese Climbs Porcelain.

The video I had watched and going to be summarizing about is about a guy that had tried to rock climb and he just wasn't succeding in climbing it. He had tried like 2 or 3 different times and he couldn't get than finally he tried again and he finally had got it. He was getting mad at himself because he couldn't get up on the rock. It also looked like he was using chalk and he had it on the rock and his hands. There was also cracks in the rock it looked like. The rock was also a darker color. It looked like it was black or something. It was an ok video I don't think I would ever watch it again.

Summarizing of the article

The article was about someone climbing. It had said that they were at HP 40 and it was also during the weekend. He also talked about why he liked to rock climb so much. He had also said his goal was to video tape them rock climbing. It also happened at Mariachi. He was also saying that he was getting angry because he kept falling. He thought recording videos of him and his friends rock climbing would help him get attention or something but it just didn't work.

About Myself.

My name is Allison Roschild. I live in Granite Falls, MN. I go to school at Echo Charter. I like hanging out with my friends and I also like to be at school and go to my job. My family is one thing that is the most important in my life. I don't think I could do anything without them. They have been here for my whole life and I really appreciate it. My job is what really makes my day and also seeing my boyfriend. I like my job because everyone is so easy going there and you don't get judged for who you are or anything. I guess my school is alright. I got some decent friends there but there is a lot of stuff that goes on there. But that is not my problem. I keep everything to myself. But I think that's all you need to know about me.
